Weekly Update Beginning February 27, 2022

I didn’t feel well today and stayed in bed for the majority of the day. I’m hoping my literal day of rest was what my body needed, and I’ll have my energy back tomorrow!

I didn’t post on Friday night, but we got to celebrate the wedding of Jacob’s brother and our new sister in law! We are so happy for them and love that Monica is finally an official part of the family! πŸ₯°

Also, it’s been many years since Jacob’s siblings have all been together, so we had to get a picture of these 4 cute cousins all born within a year! I hope they will all have a great relationship when they grow up! 😍

Well I’ve been on this Earth for 35 years now, and that makes me happy. I’ve had a great 35 years, it hasn’t always been sunshine and roses, but it’s been good and exactly what I needed to be the person that I am today!

I like who I am. I know there’s a lot of areas that I need to improve, but I’m getting there. I like the trajectory I’m headed in. And really being able to say all of this is new for me.

Today wasn’t the best, it was fine, but because it was my birthday I let all the kids’ negativity get to me. Didn’t they know it was my birthday!?!?

They did, but they are still learning how to deal with their emotions. And in fact I’m still learning too and I had my own crying episode. Thankfully Jacob helped ground me, the kids helped clean up the house, and we were able to get back on track by the time I read books to the kids for bed.

My day could be summed up with what was said to me at the park: Peter hugging my legs, “Happy Birthday, Mommy!”  One second later Lily hitting my leg and yelling, “Bad Mommy!”

So, there has to be opposition in all things apparently!

This is not the best picture of me, but I love it of Spencer and Peter!

Today I got my birthday present, a new blender! It occured to me that I can help my family get a better range of nutrients every day by making smoothies a daily occurrence. The kids love them and now it will be easy easier to make them!

Give me all of your smoothy tricks and recipes!

We’ve started “Cooking with Mom” up again! Once a week one of my children get to choose what’s for dinner and then help me make it. We started with Steven, because it was his week on dishes. He chose Aunt Jane’s things, pretty much a biscuit with jam and frosting on top, and then he rounded out the meal with bacon for protein and a smoothy full of fruit and spinach! πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

I love doing this for a few reasons:

1. I hate to think of what to have for dinner, so this is one day I know I don’t have to come up with.

2. I’m teaching my children how to make a well balanced meal. …I do understand this meal wasn’t amazingly balanced, but it’s a start! Baby steps, remember, baby steps.

3. It teaches my kids how to cook, how to follow recipes, how to use math to double/triple/quadruple a recipe, and to give them confidence in the kitchen.

4. I know at least one kid won’t complain about dinner, and a lot of the time most kids are complimentary of each other’s efforts on dinner.

5. Basically, I’m just trying to raise competent humans who will contribute positively to society. But really, imagine when they are all older and they make dinner twice a month and then I only need to cook like twice a week!
Done!

When did my baby get so big!?!?

We were playing outside in gorgeous weather and Peter got his blanket, sat on the steps, and said he was waiting for Grandma and Grandpa to come. It was adorable!

Jacob’s parents came for dinner, dessert, and puzzles. It was such a delightful afternoon playing outside and then a fun night with Grandparents! πŸ₯°

We enjoyed the last warm day before a cold front comes, I think we all can’t wait until Spring comes.

Jacob and I had a date night tonight and it was very much needed! Jacob’s been working 60+ hours a week for a good handful of months now, and I haven’t felt great physically which in turn wasn’t great for my mental health. We always look forward to date nights to really get to spend time together and to escape normal every day life.

Tonight, I’m so grateful for Spring weather with birds chirping and date nights with my best friend! πŸ₯°
